About this Session

Digital Catapult, the UK authority on advanced digital technologies, and special guest present this session aiming to demystify the potential for technology innovation within highly regulated industries.

The session will include a scene-setting presentation to help businesses understand how to tackle common challenges post-pandemic, innovate more easily and rapidly by harnessing the power of the UK’s tech startup ecosystem, and deliver ROI, reduced costs, lower emissions and increased productivity.

Following the presentation, in the in-conversation session with Johnson Matthey, we will explore their journey of adopting advanced digital technologies, as well as share top tips for any businesses at the start of their innovation journey.

David sits at the interface between advanced digital technologies and industrial adopters to provide real business impact. David’s focus at Digital Catapult is around supporting industry in making their activities more sustainable, designing for a circular economy and the development of innovative new business models to transform the way the UK industry operates. David is passionate about using digital technologies to enable positive environmental and social impact and leads Digital Catapults Industrial Net Zero Innovation Centre (INZIC), with a focus on supporting the UK Government’s goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050.

David has a PhD from University College London and a degree in chemistry from the University of Surrey.

Product and Partnerships Manager, Digital Catapult

Operating at the interface of advanced digital technologies and the UK manufacturing ecosystem, Rukmini’s role is to drive the adoption of internet of things (IoT) in industry, building real-world solutions with cutting-edge technologies. Rukmini brings together startups and industry to develop acceleration programmes, supporting medium and large enterprises through proposition and product creation, prototyping, go-to-market roadmaps and broad strategy. Prior to joining Digital Catapult, Rukmini worked at Google in Product Marketing and drove Chromebook sales through major retailers like Currys PC World and John Lewis. Rukmini started her career at Vodafone, working across a number of marketing and strategy roles and then in the IoT Global sales team, building up a new International Public Sector customer vertical that included multilateral institutions like the ECB and global NGOs like Oxfam.

She holds a 1st Class degree from the University of Cambridge in Philosophy.

Richard Head

IT Digital Strategy Partner - Johnson Matthey

Richard Head is the IT Digital Strategy Partner at Johnson Matthey. Richard has 35 years experience in IT, Digital, Data and Analytics and has led global digital, data and analytics teams at FTSE companies including Cadburys, Burberry and Diageo. Joining Johnson Matthey in 2014 he initially led the data and analytics steam on the global SAP rollout. Subsequently he established the group digital innovation strategy and built out the data platforms for both corporate and agile analytics and setup  the group data office. As Digital Strategy Partner he is directly accountable for driving digital innovation across the company and working the senior leadership to identify new opportunities for implementation of digital technologies.

Richard holds a BSc in Electronic Physics from Royal Holloway Collage – University of London.
