Presentation Title : A REACH into the Green future of advanced resin chemistry

Abstract : When it comes to ground-breaking chemistry, Bitrez Ltd is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers, supplying world-class companies across the globe. Thermoset polymer materials have a wide range of uses but they are often found in adhesives, insulating materials, coatings systems and matrix resins for composite applications, which are used in a broad range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, consumer packaging and construction. REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations and European Chemicals Agency guidelines, combined with the introduction of the Global Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, has led to many changes in chemical identification, re-classification and threshold limits. This is having a serious impact on the chemistries that can be used in the formulation of resins. As such, this presentation will focus on the key chemistries impacted by REACH, highlighting some of the issues and challenges the market faces in the weeks and months ahead, as well as what the future may hold. It will also include an overview of how Bitrez is using ‘clever chemistry’ and “green chemistry” to formulate a new generation of resin materials, which meet regulatory guidelines.

Bio : ‘Having worked in the field of Advanced Polymers for over 20 years in both technical and commercial roles, Dominic Hopwood is now Resin Sales Manager for Bitrez Limited, an R&D focused formulator and manufacturer of Synthetic Resins, based in Standish. Much of Dominic’s time is spent developing new client relationships, collaborating on component, coating and joining applications within the Composites, Adhesives and Coating sectors, where the demand for REACH compliant, sustainable yet high performance / multifunctional Thermoset resin chemistries continues to grow’
