About this presentation

PlantSea Ltd is a biotechnology start up from West-Wales on a mission to turn the tide on plastic pollution through the development of’sustainable seaweed based bio-materials. Join Co-Founder, Dr Alex Newnes to learn more about the need to change and how biomaterials might provide a solution to address this pressing environmental concern.

Millions of tonnes of plastic are manufactured each year. These materials are often petroleum based, responsible for large-scale environmental damage and greenhouse gas emissions. Many are un-recyclable and reach end of life after one use. Once discarded, this plastic sits for centuries in landfill or drifts through our oceans.  PlantSea aims to replace these environmentally damaging petroleum-based plastics with sustainable and biodegradable alternatives. The project focuses on the development of sustainable and low carbon bioplastics, with the aim to be national pioneers in the development and production of sustainable and affordable seaweed derived plastic alternatives.
