Move to Bio-based: cross sectoral transitions

Dr Kyla Orr is the co-founder and Scientific Director of the KelpCrofters, a seaweed farming company based off the Isle of Skye, Scotland. She has a passion for developing a sustainable blue economy, and has a PhD in Marine Ecology and an Honors degree in marine natural products chemistry. At KelpCrofters she is developing a range of seaweed-based cosmetic ingredients made from regeneratively farmed kelp, that has been processed using low-energy ‘green’ methods. Kelp farming adds to biodiversity, rather than taking away from it, and her focus is to produce natural ingredients that improve the wellbeing of both the planet and people.
