About this Session

The term Industry 4.0 has been in circulation for many years now, usually associated with manufacturing this session aims to explore the latest and greatest ideas, yes in manufacturing but other areas too: laboratory, office and life!

According to Wikipedia “The Fourth Industrial Revolution, 4IR, or Industry 4.0, conceptualizes rapid change to technology, industries, and societal patterns and processes in the 21st century due to increasing interconnectivity and smart automation.”

So, what does this mean?  What are the technologies behind driving the industrial revolution and how is it already and continuing to impact our working and daily lives? What is the human impact on moving towards increased cyber physical systems?  Are we ready?  We have an hour to explore!

Host Bio:

Peter has been working in automated systems for over 30 years, in process industries including Oil and Gas, Food and Drink, Power Generation.  In his role at CPI he combines the automated systems knowledge with the systems approach to uplifting data from scientific and operational processes allowing analysis of the data to gain invaluable insights.

Grand Challenge and Digital Strategy Lead (Medicines Manufacture)

Dave leads the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre’s ‘Just in Time Clinical Pharmacy’ project and the Centres’ Digital Strategy. He started his career as a pharmacist for the NHS specialising in oncology, completed his PhD and moved to AstraZeneca to develop novel cancer treatments. After his time at AZ he led a research group at Durham University and set up the Complex Powders facility in the National Formulation Centre. Dave is passionate about collaborative innovation and leveraging digital technology to drive the effective development of new medicines.

Iwona has a commercial background in process control technologies, MOM/MES platforms and industrial IT solutions. In the last 10 years, Iwona has been working with UK’s manufacturers, small and large, on digital technology adoption and process change implementation. She has experience working in highly regulated chemical and pharmaceutical environments on LEAN projects with ISA95 standards. Iwona is a certified business analyst, agile scrum master and a member of BCS.

Alex gained a PhD in solid state physics from the University of Leeds in 2004, he worked in photovoltaics research followed by photonics based medtech before joining CPI in 2017.  Working within the Strategic Marketing team within the remit of printable electronics for smart supply chains and smart pharmaceutical packaging. He recently led an initiative to understand the capability requirements for a centre of excellence in smart pharma packaging. He is currently leading the CPI Strategic Marketing Smart Packaging Initiative and is keen to help support the development and scale up of innovations that will improve supply chains, reduce wastage and improve patient outcomes.
