Brexit consequences for the UK coatings industry
Tom BowtellCEO - British Coatings Federation
Time & Location
Thursday: 10.40 to 11.00, Stage 2
About this presentation
At the start of 2019, the British Coatings Federation’s CEO Tom Bowtell went on record as saying that Brexit was far from “oven ready” for the chemicals industry and its supply chain. With 60% of the industry’s raw materials coming from the EU, and 80% of UK coatings and printing ink exports heading in the opposite direction, it is critical for suppliers and formulators to have as close to tariff and friction free trade as possible.
Tom will update the audience on the reality of the UK Government’s Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, and how it is affecting the coatings industry supply chain, both now and in the longer term.
Tom joined the British Coatings Federation as their Chief Executive Officer in June 2012. Previously he was the General Manager and Director of Proskills UK, a Sector Skills Council. Tom has extensive experience of the Paint Industry, having worked for AkzoNobel for 19 years in the Vehicle Refinish and Decorative Coatings Sectors in the UK, The Netherlands, Eastern Europe and the USA in senior sales and marketing roles.
Tom has a BA business degree from Bournemouth University. He is married with three children and, to use his own words, is passionate about orienteering, running, cycling and football.’
