UK & Ireland Spill AssociationSpring Technical Conference is this year hosted as an integrated ‘feature stream’ of content, within CHEMUK 2023. Accessible to visitors of CHEMUK 2023, the conference sessions run in Stage 4, on Thursday 11th May from 12.00 noon.

Executive Director, UK and Ireland Spill Association

Mark J Orr is the Executive Director and provides day to day management of the UK and Ireland Trade association representing to government, regulators and the environment industry  all spill and incident response companies in UK and Republic of Ireland. He is also directly involved in the associated company that run our accreditation schemes, International Spill Accreditation Scheme Ltd and Interspill Ltd which organizes an international trade show in Europe every three years.

Prior to this role he worked at Director level in companies providing hazardous services to the  oil and gas industry that included spill and emergency response. He is a past Chair of UK and Ireland Spill Association and a Fellow of the Association of Petroleum and Explosive Administrators.

Chief Scientific Advisor - Adler and Allan

Bill Atkinson is the Chief Scientific Advisor at Adler and Allan, leaking a team of Incident Advisors providing the 24-7 Emergency Advice service, providing chemical incident advice by telephone to callers ranging from the public to the emergency services, world-wide and in multiple languages, for over 200 clients. He supports the chemical incident response service provided by Adler and Allan across the UK, providing on and off-scene advice.

After obtaining a degree in Chemistry from the University of Bristol and spending time working in the chemical industry, he has over 25 years of experience in providing advice on the hazards, properties and reactions of chemicals. He is a safety trainer and safety data sheet (SDS) author and a qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) by road.

Bill is also employed as a Scientific Advisor to West Midlands Fire Service, providing advice and attending hazardous material and CBRNe incidents across six counties in the Midlands. He has helped author a number of policy documents to update and inform policy within the UK fire services in respect of hazardous materials.
