About us
Orbital Fabrications Limited (Orbital) is the UK market leader in high- and ultra-high-purity gas and liquid delivery systems used in demanding manufacturing applications. Sectors served include semiconductor, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical production, clean energy and automotive. Orbital also works extensively with academic institutions developing the products and technologies of the future.
Established in 1988 and based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, Orbital has an annual turnover of ca. GBP 20million and a workforce of almost 100. Its 37,000 sq. ft manufacturing base includes 6000 sq. ft of environmentally controlled clean areas (ISO class 5 and 6), along with full system design, project management and documentation capabilities, a comprehensive CNC machining workshop and extensive testing facilities. A thorough understanding of all applicable standards, including GMP, SEMI, ASME and BS EN codes, ensures that system design meets respective industry criteria.
Skilled in a range of welding techniques, the company’s team of craftsmen is best-known for its expertise in orbital welding: this delivers high-purity, high-integrity fully penetrating welds with excellent repeatability and is therefore the first choice for applications where containment is crucial—notably the delivery of toxic, pyrophoric or explosive process gases. Dual containment, through coaxial pipework and Orbital’s signature Valve Manifold Box (VMB) provide further reassurance for system operators.
Strong in-house capabilities are mirrored by an extensive site team, responsible for installation and ongoing project support at customers’ premises. This enables an integrated approach, scalable according to the project requirements, which delivers high-performance manufacturing and installation solutions. From initial enquiry, through site survey, proposal and design, to manufacturing, assembly, testing, documentation, installation and ongoing safety compliance via written schemes of examination—Orbital offers true full service to end users and mechanical/electrical contractors alike.
In December 2023, Sweden’s Bergman & Beving acquired a majority stake in Orbital, bringing added financial strength to underpin its growth. Established in 1906 and with a current annual turnover of ca. SEK 5billion (GBP 388million), Bergman & Beving specialises in acquiring and developing leading companies within niche markets that provide productive, safe and sustainable solutions to the industrial and construction sectors.
At Southern Manufacturing, Orbital will exhibit products from its Bergman & Beving sister companies Modus Gauges and Test Plugs. Acquired by Bergman & Beving in October 2025, the companies offer the UK’s most comprehensive ranges of gauges and test plugs respectively, which are used in a wide range of industrial applications.
