PANEL SESSION:

Cost‑Efficient O/W Emulsion Stability Without High‑Pressure Homogenisation: A Practical Approach Using Multi‑Stage In‑Line Mixing

Achieving long term stability in oil in water emulsions traditionally relies on high pressure homogenisers, equipment that is effective but costly, energy intensive, and often disproportionate to the needs of agile manufacturers. This presentation explores an alternative, economically accessible pathway to robust O/W emulsification by leveraging multi stage in line shear technology.

Drawing on real-world formulation challenges and industrial process constraints, the session will introduce a system from Vak Kimsa as a practical solution for dispersion and emulsification without the capital and operational burden of high-pressure systems. Its multi–tooth rotor–stator architecture enables high shear rates, controlled droplet size distribution, and improved stability across low, medium, and high viscosity systems.
The talk will outline how formulators and process engineers can optimise salinity, pH, and phase addition strategies to enhance emulsion performance, supported by simulation insights and application examples. Attendees will gain a clear, actionable framework for designing stable O/W emulsions using scalable, energy-efficient equipment, bridging formulation science with smart process engineering.
