PANEL SESSION:

Critical Response: Enhancing Emergency Management and Decision-Making in the Chemical Industry

This session, led by CHEMTREC in collaboration with the HSE lead from Infineum UK, explores the critical role of emergency preparedness in the chemical industry. Often, those tasked with managing high-pressure, hazardous incidents are far removed from their day-to-day technical roles in labs or operations.

We will share insights from our joint efforts to identify and address gaps in emergency response capabilities, particularly in handling complex crises involving hazardous materials (HAZMATs).

The session will focus on the integration of non-technical skills, psychology-based insights, and hands-on exercises in enhancing crisis management. Attendees will learn how combining theoretical knowledge with real-life simulations, such as simulated explosions and on-site protestors, can significantly improve decision-making and response efficacy in high-stress situations.

We will showcase how collaboration between consultants and clients to design tailored, progressive training programs led to measurable improvements in response effectiveness.

Attendees will gain practical takeaways for enhancing their own organizations’ emergency preparedness and learn how non-technical skills and psychological insights can improve decision-making under pressure, ultimately strengthening crisis management readiness in the chemical sector.
