PANEL SESSION:

High Level & Low Level Disinfectant Cleaners – Innovations for the Healthcare sector as Biocides and Medical Devices

Safeguarding human health by eliminating pathogenic microorganisms is an essential tool for healthcare settings such as hospitals, dentist centers and nursery homes. Managing disinfectant requirements is especially challenging when new test requirements threaten the efficacy as a sporicidal disinfectant. While Chlorine based products are frequently used within these settings, its stability is frequently a topic of concern. The presentation discusses the use of stabilized Chlorine Dioxide and its full spectrum efficacy as a high level disinfectant. which is efficient against the whole spectrum of harmful microorganisms, including bacteria, yeast, viruses, fungi, mycobacteria and spores and additionally shows very good efficacy against difficult-to-remove biofilms. Especially the proven efficacy against bacterial spores such as C. diff. within 5 minutes – even under medical dirty conditions – in Hospitals is an essential contribution to reducing Hospital Associated Infections. Disinfectant Cleaner wipes for low level disinfection of hard surfaces offer microbial efficacy combined with a spectrum of other important attributes ranging from fast contact times, one step disinfection and cleaning, delivery of excellent surface aesthetics, broad material compatibility, high quality substrates through to optimized cost-in-use. Additionally we discuss the chance to reduce plastic waste by using biodegradable substrates as well as eliminating the need to wear gloves during application.
