‘What’s the future for adhesives and sealants?’

‘What’s the future for adhesives and sealants? – Feature panel session

With contributors from the construction, packaging and automotive sectors, other trade associations in the UK and Europe and key manufacturers in the Adhesives and Sealants Sectors we’ll be exploring the complex and often conflicting priorities in assessing the sustainability of adhesives and sealants.

We’ll question how much of the real sustainability story is reflected in product packaging—particularly when contamination makes recycling difficult or impossible. As regulations and material classifications continue to evolve, we’ll discuss how the industry is adapting without compromising product performance or lifespan.

We’ll also tackle the growing pressure for dismantleability and recyclability, asking whether this focus risks undermining durability and safety – especially in high-performance or safety-critical applications. Lifecycle thinking will be a key theme, as we consider whether the true carbon benefits of bonded, lightweight systems are being lost in the pursuit of mono-material, easily recyclable solutions.

Finally, rounding off with a panel discussion session to look at the issues raised in the videos, we’ll challenge whether efforts to enable debonding and end-of-life separation are sometimes prioritised at the expense of long-term reliability, and what a genuinely sustainable approach should look like.
