Andrew Jeskins

Bio:

Andrew Jeskins is Programme Manager for Awards & Prizes at the Royal Society of Chemistry, delivering the RSC’s annual prize programme recognising excellence in research and innovation.

Andrew was part of the team that produced the RSC’s landmark report Re-thinking recognition, in which the organisation set out a bold vision for scientific recognition in the 21st century. Since its publication, Andrew has worked with the chemistry community to help achieve that vision.

A highlight has been developing and launching a new recognition format for teams and collaborations. The RSC’s Horizon Prizes celebrate discoveries and innovations across chemistry, simultaneously highlighting the range of roles and contributions that lie behind those breakthroughs. In addition to other changes, these have helped the RSC to recognise more and a broader range of individuals, in a way that better reflects how research is carried out in the modern day.

A particularly rewarding part of Andrew’s role is building relationships with prize winners – both in the short-term, to make sure details are in place for a high-profile public announcement, and over the longer-term, working with colleagues around the RSC on activities, opportunities and events that celebrate the multiple ways in which chemical scientists make the world a better place.
