PANEL SESSION:

The “Process Industries: Net Zero” (PINZ) Centre for Doctoral Training

The “Process Industries: Net Zero” (PINZ) Centre for Doctoral Training – Feature session

PINZ is a collaboration between the Process Intensification Group at Newcastle and the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence at York University. Over the next 9 years the centre will train 55 PhD students to work on projects to reduce the carbon footprint of UK industry. Every project will be sponsored by an industrial partner, and every student will be given the key skills to make a difference in the path to Net Zero. In this session we will introduce the centre, how industry can get involved, and highlight three of the ongoing projects.

Our three spotlight projects are:

  1. Filter Optimisation for Flue Gas Treatment: Improving Efficiency and Saving Energy – Durham Filtration and Dr Jonathan McDonough
  2. Biofuels from Food Waste – Biofuel Evolution and Professor Adam Harvey
  3. Saving Energy and Heat Recovery Across a Waste-Water Treatment Site – Northumbrian Water and Dr Richard Law
