Merck Launches First Bio-Based Solvent Portfolio for HPLC
Bio-based solvents—built for HPLC. Merck launches the first bio-based HPLC solvent portfolio: drop-in replacements for ACN/MeOH/EtOH with ~25.9% lower CO₂e on average, without method redevelopment.
Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany has launched the first bio-based solvent portfolio specifically designed for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Produced from renewable feedstocks, these patent-pending solvents are designed as drop-in replacements that preserve established chromatography performance while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-based materials. Compared with conventional fossil-based HPLC-grade solvents, the portfolio delivers 25.9% lower CO₂ equivalents on average, supporting labs in lowering product-related greenhouse gas emissions without compromising data quality. The solvents are compatible with established HPLC and LC-MS methods and instruments, enabling seamless adoption in routine and regulated environments and avoiding time-consuming method redevelopment. The portfolio includes bio-based alternatives for acetonitrile, methanol, and ethanol and is intended for demanding analytical applications such as drug R&D, manufacturing QC, environmental monitoring, and diagnostics.
