Barytes

Barytes, also known as Barium Sulphate or BaSO4, is a natural mineral found in certain parts of the world, extracted by both surface and underground mining, followed by physical processing methods to yield correctly size product and to remove extraneous material.

Characterised by its high specific gravity, very low solubility, it is non-toxic, and also chemically and physically unreactive. As well as low oil absorption; with a medium Mohs hardness 3; easy wetting; and good ability to disperse as compared to precipitated barium sulphate.

Barytes is an inert mineral powder that acts as a functional filler in paints, thermoplastics, rubber and adhesives.
