Perlite
Perlite, Al2CaFe2K2MgNa2O12Si, is a natural volcanic mineral which, after thermal treatment, resembles polystyrene balls in appearance, pumice in structure, and is chemically similar to glass.
Perlite ore is extracted from the deposit using the open pit method. After mining, the rock is crushed and ground into sand. The sand is then sorted into fractions, this is an important process because the size of a specific fraction determines what type of expanded perlite we will obtain in further processing. The perlite sand goes to expansion plants. There it is subjected to thermal treatment, which increases its volume. Perlite expands at temperatures over 900°C.
Then, chemically bound water molecules are released, which are a characteristic feature of this mineral. The escaping water causes the material to expand. As a result of this process, perlite increases its volume by up to twenty times. As a result, its density and bulk weight also decrease by twenty times, thanks to which we obtain a light and porous aggregate.
Through our partner Perlipol we can offer a range of expanded, filtration and treated Perlites. We also offer expanded vermiculite for agriculture and animal husbandry.
