3yr contract with chemical manufacturer
When a large chemical manufacturer in the North East was tendering for a long-term Water Treatment partner, Rock Compliance was the clear winner. A deciding factor in our success in winning this contract was our innovation-led approach, which includes new technology that will save the site an estimated £100k/year in cooling tower operational costs. We’ve actually worked with the client for several years, but the client has a policy to tender every three years, and we were delighted to retain this business with a value-added proposal based on the experience we’ve built up, combined with a local presence and quick response capability, a competitive commercial package, and strong technical confidence built during site engagement over the last three years. We’ll be installing Intuition-6 and Intuition-9 controllers, complete with PTSA, pH, halogen and conductivity probes. A revised treatment plan will utilise acid dosing to increase cycles from three to five. This will allow sites to save on water, salt (softeners now redundant), chemical and energy to the value of £100k/yr, and links perfectly with the site’s planned sustainability goals, reducing the carbon footprint. To deliver on this value-added contract, we’re providing: • Cooling tower water treatment chemicals and service • Cooling tower cleaning services, with endoscopic reporting. • Boiler water treatment and services, with enhanced condensate treatment • Remote monitoring of the four key parameters on all cooling towers: pH, halogen, PTSA and conductivity • Remote alarm system for the key parameters impacting site • Domestic and process water hygiene monitoring

Achieving Complete PFAS Abatement
Puragen delivers complete PFAS destruction, ensuring full regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and sustainable reuse of activated carbon. PFAS are highly persistent synthetic chemicals increasingly subject to strict EU and UK regulation due to their environmental and health risks. Some PFAS are classified as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), meaning that PFAS-contaminated materials cannot be recycled, reused, or recovered unless the PFAS are fully destroyed. This creates a significant challenge for operators using activated carbon to capture PFAS, as spent media must be managed in strict compliance with POP waste legislation. Puragen’s solution is an enhanced thermal reactivation process, independently verified to achieve complete PFAS destruction. Unlike conventional regeneration facilities, Puragen’s plant is designed to eliminate PFAS at the molecular level, preventing any risk of re-release to the environment. This approach ensures: Full compliance with EU/UK POP waste regulations Verified destruction of PFAS A sustainable alternative to landfill or mass incineration through carbon reuse While some facilities accept PFAS-contaminated carbon below POP thresholds, many are unable to achieve the destruction efficiencies required to eliminate PFAS, allowing these substances to persist in the environment. Puragen is one of the few UK facilities specifically designed and independently tested to overcome this challenge. Supported by a full range of high-performance activated carbon products and mobile filtration systems, Puragen provides end-to-end PFAS management—from capture to verified destruction—giving customers confidence that their PFAS waste is handled to the highest environmental and regulatory standards.

Air Sea Containers Ltd celebrates 45 years in business
In 2026, Air Sea Containers Ltd celebrates 45 years in business. While the company was formally established in March 1981, its story began much earlier in 1946 with a family business built on hard work and innovation. From its early days as a drum reconditioning operation in Rock Ferry, supplying wooden barrels, the business steadily evolved. The introduction of new legislation in 1981 surrounding the transport of dangerous goods marked a pivotal moment, leading to the formation of Air Sea Containers Ltd. This shift focused the company on providing compliant packaging solutions for hazardous materials a specialist area that continues to define the business today. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the company expanded its product range, achieving UN approvals, developing 4G & 4GV packaging and introducing packaging solutions for the petrochemical and biomedical sectors. As its reputation grew, so did its global presence, with agents established across Europe, the USA, Africa, and Asia. Innovation has remained at the core of the company’s growth. From thermal control packaging and lithium battery solutions to the development of an eco range and LQ packaging, the business has continued to evolve alongside industry demands. More recently, the introduction of an on-site accredited UN testing laboratory have further strengthened its technical capabilities. Over the decades, the company’s success has been built not only on product innovation, but also on the dedication of its staff and the loyalty of its customers. From its origins in 1946 to today, the journey reflects a commitment to trust, excellence and passion, values that continue to guide the company as it looks to the future. The industry will continue to evolve, but the commitment to provide compliant dangerous goods packaging solutions and technical expertise to its customers remains unchanged.

Augean Launches Low-Level PFAS Treatment Capability at Avonmouth
The company is a UK leader in the specialist waste management sector and prides itself on being at the forefront of innovative processes and technological solutions to meet the ever-evolving waste treatment needs of modern society. The investment in the Avonmouth site means it is now fully equipped and permitted to process ground and surface water, fire water, and system or tank washings contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) which are a growing area of regulatory and environmental priority across the UK. PFAS are often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they do not easily degrade. Despite their historical benefits in providing heat, water, oil, or stain resistance, they pose increasingly recognised environmental and health risks that need to be effectively managed. Augean’s solution to this challenge is delivered in partnership with Puragen applying their “Search. Capture. Destroy.” methodology. PFAS compounds are captured using high-performance activated carbon and permanently destroyed through Puragen’s own UK advanced thermal reactivation process. This process ensures the total elimination of contaminants and so prevents any transfer to the wider environment. A standout feature is the circular aspect of the process : the activated carbon is regenerated and reused following thermal treatment, reducing secondary waste and lowering overall environmental impact. This innovative development strengthens Augean’s position in the management of emerging contaminant waste streams like PFAS and enhances its ability to support clients facing tightening compliance requirements. The company confirmed that it intends to invest in similar treatment facilities across its other sites soon. Infrastructure investments of this nature signal a broader shift within the waste management sector towards managing PFAS through permanent destruction technologies and sustainable remediation strategies.

Automate LC Purification & Compound Recovery with UFPLC
Shimadzu’s UFPLC is the industry’s first Ultra-Fast Purification LC instrument that fully automates recovery of highly purified target compounds from complex samples. Conventional workflows utilising preparative liquid chromatography yield fractions with significant water content which can take several hours to evaporate and typically cannot be completely removed. The UFPLC offers a single automated workflow that utilises on-line fraction trapping as an alternative to traditional fraction collection, allowing elution of collected compounds in highly volatile organic solvents that can easily be evaporated, resulting in ultra-high purity compounds in significantly reduced time. The instrument is controlled by a dedicated walk-up software designed for users to easily set conditions for chromatographic separation and isolation of target compounds, trapping, purifying, eluting and collecting highly purified compounds. The Nexera UFPLC greatly improves the efficiency of preparative fraction collection and purification workflows in pharmaceutical, food, chemical and other industries as well as research organisations. The main functions of the UFPLC system include: - Automation of fraction post-processing (desalting, solvent removal, counter ion switching) - Up to 90% faster sample evaporation - Targeting major peaks or small unknown impurity peaks - Generating highly reproducible pure samples Find out more by clicking the following link.
