BIO-INNOVATION POSTER ZONE:

Green Chemistry/Chemicals (renewable/biological’ bio-based)

The poster is focussed on Caldic’s partnership with Celtic Renewables showcasing their innovative process which converts unwanted and low-value biological material into high-value renewable chemicals, sustainable biofuel, and other commercially and environmentally valuable commodities.

Celtic Renewables were formally launched in 2012 as a spin out from Edinburgh University and recently completed the construction of their first bio-refinery. The bio refinery located in Grangemouth, will take low value residues from the local Whiskey distillery industry and convert this feedstock into high value 2nd generation bio solvents (bio Acetone, bio Butanol and bio Ethanol). The bio solvents produced at the Grangemouth facility will benefit from an excellent carbon footprint.

As the feedstocks used in the process are non-land and non-food chain competing these bio solvents offer a truly sustainable alternative to traditional fossil derived solvents. For more than fifty years, Caldic has been helping customers to find the solutions they need to make their products excel in the market.

We have evolved from our origins in base chemicals to offering specialty ingredients and solutions with high added value. Our innovative and sustainable solutions in life science and specialty chemicals for the food, pharma, personal care and industrial markets are available via our global network..
