Tees Valley is a global leader for the chemical and process industry, with one of the most significant integrated industrial economies in the world. We produce some 30% of the UK’s chemical output and are home to some of the world’s biggest chemical manufacturers.

We are home to the largest chemical complex in the UK, and the second largest in Europe in terms of manufacturing capacity.

Major industrial assets include deep-water port facilities, an effluent water treatment plant, pipeline networks, underground cavity storage and uninterrupted access to water and key utilities, such as steam, power and industrial gases.

The area is home to the UK’s biggest and first operational Freeport. The 4,500 area offers a range of tax and customs incentives to investors. Wilton International, part of the Teesside Freeport, is the largest ‘private wire’ electricity network in the UK. One of the UK’s most important locations for the process industry, the site enables manufacturers to realise significant savings on both capex and opex compared to other UK locations.

Multimillion-pound project Net Zero Teesside, led by bp, will provide low carbon energy alongside carbon capture utilisation and storage for Tees Valley’s industrial cluster, further enhancing the competitive local operating environment. It is the UK’s premier CCUS project.
