Cogent has charitable status, and is a not-for-profit organisation. The Cogent Group’s strategic objectives are:
- To have a pipeline of young people with the capability, drive and ambition to build a globally competitive science based industry in the UK; and
- To support the development of the existing workforce to acquire the skills needed to adopt new technologies and innovate new products and services.
Cogent is a group of companies comprised of Cogent Skills, Cogent Skills Services, NSAN and SIAS. Collectively these companies’ purpose is entirely focused on skills and supporting the skills needs and ambitions of individual employers and their employees. Cogent has particular expertise in STEM and industry regulation with respect to skills and competence.

Cogent has over a decade of expertise in skills for science industries. It both responds to the skills demands of business and connects with government skills policies to ensure the right environment for skills to flourish. Everything that we do is underpinned by a robust quality system.
Cogent Skills
Cogent Skills is the parent body and acts as the strategic partner to industry and provider of support to the Science Industry Partnership (SIP), Downstream Advisory Council (DAC) and the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) which are now fully established and developing as Membership forums.
Cogent Skills works to promote an employer owned skills system, be a source of information and intelligence on skills and a respected and sought after employer voice on skills policy. Cogent Skills also continues to provide access to government funding into the sector and to individual employers and acts as a standards setting authority. It provides careers information on jobs in the science industries
Cogent Skills Services (CSS)
Working with industry, CSS develops and deliver skills solutions to employers that present best value in the marketplace, support employers to deliver excellence in skills and demonstrate competence to the regulator.

We offer a variety of services from recruiting the best new talent to your business via industrial placements and Apprenticeships, to developing your existing workforce through training courses and skills benchmarking.
