About this presentation

A Continuous Direct Compression (CDC) line is an efficient setup for the production of solid dosage forms and is designed to achieve greater process control than traditional ‘bulk batch’ manufacturing methods. Through ‘Grand Challenge 1 (GC#1)’ project, the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) has led a consortium of industrial and academic institutions to develop a digital twin CDC platform. This talk will present process models of GC#1’s CDC units (feeder, blender and tablet process) and the integration of hybrid machine learning and flowsheet models in the CDC digital twin.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Kamal Abu-Hassan is a senior scientist with The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI). He is specialised in flowsheet modelling of continuous direct compression (CDC), neuromorphic computing, data assimilation and machine learning. He worked before as a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of West London (Feb 2022 – Aug 2022). Before this (2014–2021), he worked on post-doctoral research projects with several UK Universities.
