About this presentation
If we are to deliver net zero, in addition to replacing our current main source of energy, we will need to move away from the use of fossil carbon feedstocks for the wide variety of supply chains that depend on chemistry. These currently use about 2.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent a year.
Flue2Chem is a two-year programme made up of 17 businesses, universities and non-governmental organisations and supported by Innovate UK. Its goal is to validate a complete supply chain from flue gases generated by industries such as paper and steel, through the chemical transformations necessary to make appropriate intermediates and their reaction to make a non-ionic surfactants for the home care market, to the formulation and testing of cleaning products using this “non-traditional” source of carbon.
Flue2Chem set out to address this route to non-virgin fossil feedstocks and is now about ¾ of the way though the project. How are we doing?
