About this presentation

From the lab to the factory. Deploying innovation into industry.

Industry remains one of the largest emitters globally. In the UK alone, it accounts for 15% of the nation’s annual emissions. To minimise this footprint, it is key to reduce the energy and resource intensity of industrial processes and although many proven technologies exist in their early stages, they struggle to scale up.

Paul McKinney, Associate Director at the Carbon Trust, manages the Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA) a UK-Government programme supporting industrial-scale demonstrations of energy and/or resource efficiency innovations. Since 2017, the IEEA has awarded a total of £16.5m in grant funding, supporting 31 projects across multiple sectors, including chemicals.

Paul will discuss the step change in energy efficiency that some of these projects have demonstrated, and discuss lessons learned for industry in seeking to deploy innovative carbon saving technologies
