About this exhibitor

At the Energy & Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI), Aston University, we support the chemical and wider industrial sectors to accelerate the commercial development of emerging renewable energy, bioenergy, bioproducts and supporting technologies.

We do this through cutting-edge research, impactful partnerships, and a drive to support industry in navigating the path to Net Zero. Our team of world-class researchers, engineers and innovation specialists collaborate with organisations of all sizes to translate science into sustainable, real-world solutions. Whether you’re looking to develop new technologies, test and validate products, or explore funding and talent pathways, we are here to help.

What we offer

Applied research and laboratory expertise

We specialise in applied research that meets the needs of industry. Our state-of-the-art laboratories and testing facilities are designed for everything from bench-scale experiments to full pilot-plant testing. Our expertise spans green chemistry and chemical engineering principles, with particular focus on:

  • Bioenergy and bio-based product development
  • Advanced characterisation and process optimisation
  • Scalable low-carbon technology solutions

If your organisation is developing new low-carbon products, processes or technologies, we can help you test, validate and scale them. Partner with us to access specialist expertise, cutting-edge facilities and practical solutions that accelerate innovation and reduce risk.

Collaborative Funded Research

We have a strong track record in securing funding for collaborative research. With over £25 million in current grants, our experienced team helps businesses and academics come together to address key industry challenges.

  • Joint grant applications with industry partners
  • Identification of solutions and project proposals shaping support
  • Deep understanding of funding landscapes including UKRI, Innovate UK and Horizon Europe.

If you have an idea or challenge to explore, get in touch – we’re always keen to build new partnerships that turn innovation into impact.

Biochar CleanTech Innovation Accelerator

EBRI and local industrial partners have developed pyrolysis technology that transforms unwanted organic material into valuable low-carbon products such as heat, power, electricity, cooling, gas, biochar, organics and aqueous liquids which can be adopted in industrial and environmental applications.

We provide bespoke solutions and technology to help organisations:

  • Reduce the financial cost and carbon footprint of waste
  • Increase income generation
  • Diversify into low-carbon markets

We’re currently seeking partners for innovative applications in:

  • Paints and coatings
  • Low carbon gas for industrial heating
  • Soil conditioners and products for plant, tree and animal health
  • Water treatment and odour control

Supergen Bioenergy Hub

The Supergen Bioenergy Hub based at EBRI is the UK’s national bioenergy research consortium. We focus on delivering impact for sustainable bioenergy systems across the whole value chain – from biomass resources and conversion technologies to energy vectors, bio-based chemicals, materials and systems analysis.

We offer independentscientific research and expertise for UK businesses, helping you explore carbon reduction opportunities through biomass and bioenergy.

Our key areas of research include:

  • Aviation fuels
  • Hydrogen production
  • Heat systems
  • Bio-based products and chemicals

We are inviting new members to join our stakeholder community from across academia, industry and policy, where you can explore UK & international collaborations, engage in funding opportunities, and take part in our tailored forums and annual events.Talent Development through Net2Zero CDT

Talent Development through Net2Zero CDT

EBRI leads the Net Zero Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) – an exciting PhD programme that equips the next generation of research leaders with the skills to tackle the real-world deployment challenges of negative emission technologies.

PhD projects cover:

  • Direct Air Capture and CO₂ storage
  • Biochar synthesis and utilisation
  • Biomass to energy, chemicals and materials
  • CO₂ utilisation and carbon capture

We’re looking for industry partners to collaborate with us by supporting and co-supervising PhD students. In return, your business will benefit from a dedicated PhD researcher focused on a challenge aligned with your goals, with access to academic expertise, cutting-edge research facilities, and early insights into emerging technologies relevant to your sector.

This is a low-risk, high-impact way to explore transformative solutions for your organisation, with the support of world-leading academics, funding mechanisms, and a collaborative innovation ecosystem.

Let’s Work Together

Whether you’re in industry, policy, academia or an innovation ecosystem, EBRI offers a range of engagement opportunities:

  • Co-develop sustainable technologies
  • Access top-tier PhD researchers
  • Access our world-class facilities
  • Tap into the latest bioenergy research

Get in touch to explore how we can work together to accelerate your organisation’s journey toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
