KEYNOTE:
Textiles' Chemical Hotspots
Thursday 10.00 to 10.20, Stage 2
Speaker:
Dr Sarah KeySenior Analyst - Textiles at WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme).
About this presentation
The textile industry clothes over 8 billion people worldwide and is truly global with over 80 countries and 400 million workers involved in the manufacturing of textiles. The industry also has a significant global carbon, water and chemical footprint.
With over 3000 different chemical formulations used across the industry’s supply chains, there are plenty of challenges, but also opportunities. The UK’s Textiles 2030 voluntary agreement, managed by WRAP, doesn’t have a chemical target, but its targets for carbon and water reductions are dependent on chemical innovations throughout the value chain. This session will provide an introduction to textiles and those challenges and opportunities for the various chemistry industries.
