    2. Fireye 95 IR or UV Series 4 Flame Scanner

Fireye 95 IR or UV Series 4 Flame Scanner

The Fireye InSight Series 4 scanner belongs to an established family of versatile fully microprocessor based, integrated flame scanners. The InSight Series 4 scanner holds multiple worldwide safety agency approvals The InSight Series 4 scanners utilise advanced techniques for discrimination and integrate the flame detection, amplification, safety determination and flame switch functions into a single detection head. No separate amplifier or flame switch module is therefore required to interface with the main burner management system. InSight Series 4 incorporates the superior detection and discrimination elements of the popular InSight II product with some enhanced features. The scanner measures the amplitude of the modulations (the flame “flicker”) that occur within the targeted flame. During the scanner set-up procedure, the modulation frequency that yields the best flame ON/OFF discrimination is selected. The appropriate modulation frequency and sensor gain can be either manually or automatically selected. InSight Series 4 is a solid state detector scanner utilizing either UV or IR detector and two different available connectors which are compatible either with the 59-608 (-1WINC models) cable. Standard features include an independently adjustable Flame Relay, 21 choices of modulation frequency, adjustable sensor gain, adjustable flame relay ON/OFF thresholds, a 4-20 mA analog signal strength output, Fault Relay, four selectable programmable files (e.g. for different fuels or firing rates), and Auto Config capability with manual override. Remote communication capability is available via optional “Fireye Explorer” PC software (CU-109). These InSight Series 4 sensors have a two-line by sixteen-character alpha-numeric OLED display with a five-pushbutton keypad. The -2 models of the InSight Series 4 (e.g., 95UVS4-2, 95IRS4-2) provide a Form C flame relay output contact (NO/NC).

    5. Fischione Model 1020 Plasma Cleaner

      Fischione Model 1020 Plasma Cleaner

The Fischione Model 1020 Plasma Cleaner automatically and quickly removes organic contamination (hydrocarbon) from electron microscopy specimens and specimen holders. A low energy, reactive gas plasma cleans without changing the specimen’s elemental composition or structural characteristics. The Plasma Cleaner features easy-to-use front panel controls and an oil-free vacuum system for optimal processing. Cleaning is solely by reactive gas compounds formed by the plasma chemically reacting with carbonaceous material on the specimen and specimen holder. The nonequilibrium, high-frequency plasma is generated with a gas mixture of 25% oxygen and 75% argon. Free electrons are accelerated to high velocities by an oscillating electromagnetic field (13.56 MHz) that excites gas atoms and creates the plasma. The plasma ions impinge upon the surface with energies of less than 12 eV, which is below the specimen’s sputtering threshold. In electron microscopes with high brightness electron sources, specimens that are not plasma treated tend to contaminate. The Plasma Cleaner ensures confidence that carbonaceous contamination will not interfere with imaging or analysis, even during fine probe microanalysis for extended periods. The Plasma Cleaner readily accepts side-entry specimen holders for all commercial transmission electron microscopes, as well as scanning electron microscope samples and a wide variety of bulk materials. A specialised specimen holder port allows the cleaning of specimens contained on carbon grids.

    6. Flame Arresters

      Flame Arresters

A Flame Arrester is designed to allow the safe flow of gases and liquids while preventing flame transmission. Flame Arresters are composed of spirally wound metal bands with precisely reproducible flame-quenching gaps. These gaps are adjusted to the ignition transmission capability of explosive vapors. The FLAMEFILTER® is made of wound metal strips and forms an effective band arrester. This flame-quenching principle is applied in PROTEGO® end-of-line flame arresters and in-line flame arresters. When a mixture ignites in a gap, the flame spreads towards the unburned mixture. The volume expansion of the burned mixture pre-compresses the unburned mixture and accelerates the flame propagation. Heat dissipation to the large surface of the gap lowers the temperature below the ignition temperature, thus extinguishing the flame. The gap width and gap length determine the extinguishing effectiveness of the Flame Arrester. A narrower and longer gap extinguishes the flame more effectively, while a wider and shorter gap reduces the pressure loss. Experiments can determine the optimum solution between the two conditions.
